- Proposal for Camphills and other institutions interested in anthroposophy-based Singing Therapy -
This project is meant to be an opportunity for two groups: newly-trained Singing Therapy specialists and for the institutions in which they are intended to work. For the new therapists, it will be a chance to put into practice the knowledge and skills acquired during their training, in spaces that recognize the value of anthroposophical therapies. For the institutions, it will be an affordable way to provide their participants with an intensive Singing Therapy program, with cost limited only to providing room and board to the therapists in exchange for their work.
Furthermore, the project is intended to be an in-depth exploration of the pedagogical approach of the ideology of the School of Uncovering the Voice, the strengthening the Singing Therapy movement and the formation of its students.
The idea for this proposal was inspired by a Residence in Singing Therapy in Cali, Colombia, held by two Brazilian therapists: Juliana Monteiro and Maria Cordélia, who received their training as Singing Therapists at the Escola Raphael de Canto & Escola do Desvendar da Voz School[1] at the SAGRES Association in Florianópolis, Brazil. From January 17 to March 1, 2017, Juliana and Maria spent time at the Granja Tarapaca[2], providing weekly individual therapy sessions to seven young participants of Granja, as well as group sessions to the community at large: Granja attendees, instructors, therapists, as well as volunteers and the community director.
Given the success of the Granja Tarapaca residence, both for the Singing Therapists and community, this proposal foresees activities similar to those that were performed there:
⁃ Each Singing Therapy resident will work 2 to 5 days a week, for a period of 1 to 2 months, depending on the agreement between the two parties and the needs of the particular Camphill community
⁃ Written record of the experience by the therapists with main topics and guidelines;
⁃ Proper follow-up with local doctors (when applicable) to the work done by the singing therapists, in addition to anamneses of the members and regular meetings with Camphills program directors to address questions, objectives, needs and progress.
Program: individual and/or group Singing Therapy sessions Music and singing activities.
Target audience: community served by the institution/Camphills.
Individual sessions: providing care to 6 - 10 persons in weekly sessions of 40 minutes each
Activities/group services: one or more 40-minute-long sessions per week, depending on demand.
Period of work of the Singing Therapists: there must be a minimum of 8 to 10 sessions with each individual and/or group.
Needs of the Singing Therapists: food, accommodation and local transfer.
Material needs: one lyre, one guitar and / or piano. For group sessions: large and clean room, with one chair (without backs, preferably) for each participant; For individual sessions: a quiet, clean and organized room with backless chairs for the therapists and participants..
